Seth is a freshman majoring in Communications at Tennessee Tech University and Bruce is a junior studying World Religions at Princeton. These two millennials were eager to share their ideas about social media, the importance of communication, and their excitement about PBS as well as their intern experience.
Bruce shared about how PBS helped him discover a desired career path that led to Princeton University. From viewing PBS, he discovered the LEDA program, which stands for Leadership Enterprise for a Diverse America. LEDA was founded in 2003 by Gary Simons, founder of New York City’s highly regarded Prep for Prep program. It is now the preeminent national nonprofit organization dedicated to diversifying the national leadership pipeline by helping high-achieving students from rural areas gain admission to our nation’s most selective colleges and support their success at these institutions.
Bruce first attended a summer program at Princeton and was eager to share that with other students in rural areas.
The Aspects of Leadership Summer Institute is an intensive seven-week program and completely free of charge for LEDA Scholars. It includes leadership training, academic writing instruction, standardized test preparation, college guidance, and community building.
The Summer Institute provides LEDA Scholars with a unique range of learning experiences that help them develop and sharpen their problem-solving skills and open the door to reaching their potential as students and leaders.
The Aspects of Leadership curriculum concentrates on the development of ethical and effective leadership through an exploration of some of the toughest policy issues facing the world in the 21st Century.
The seven-week curriculum engages students with innovative teaching and learning techniques that are highly effective, fun and memorable. They include role-play simulations, student debates, mock trials and critical thinking games. We use interactive computer programs, innovative group discussion techniques, and other methods carefully tailored to accommodate individual learning needs. The classroom activities have been designed not only to convey exciting content related to leadership, but more fundamentally to develop the critical thinking skills vital to students’ academic and personal development.

Seth and Bruce have been great assets in Education at WCTE, helping with Family Creative Learning Workshops, the Head Start educational training at TTU Stem Center and producing interstitial about these educational initiatives. We will miss them when they leave our station to continue their educational endeavors but we wish them all the best and know they have bright futures ahead!
